InsightfulPipe publishes this guide, and the steps use its hosted LinkedIn Ads server.
Last updated: 2026-10-21
Short answer: To connect LinkedIn Ads to ChatGPT, connect LinkedIn Ads in InsightfulPipe, then install the InsightfulPipe plugin from ChatGPT's Plugins directory, sign in to InsightfulPipe if asked, and click Authorize access. For a LinkedIn-only connection, add https://linkedin-ads.insightfulmcp.com/ as a custom MCP server instead. There is no LinkedIn developer app to create. Plans start from $29.99 a month.
The quick version
Six steps, all in a browser. The first four connect the account, and the last two prove ChatGPT can see it before it changes anything.
- In InsightfulPipe, open Connected accounts, click Connect account and pick LinkedIn Ads.
- Choose Read-only or Read & write, sign in with LinkedIn and select your ad accounts.
- In ChatGPT, open Plugins, find InsightfulPipe and select Install plugin.
- Connect your InsightfulPipe account when ChatGPT asks, sign in to InsightfulPipe if asked, and click Authorize access.
- In a new chat, type
@and pick InsightfulPipe. - Run the read-only check under "Verify it worked" before you ask for any change.
Ways to connect LinkedIn Ads to ChatGPT, at a glance
Four routes put LinkedIn Ads in front of ChatGPT. InsightfulPipe's hosted LinkedIn Ads MCP server reads and builds with no developer app, and puts a switch on every action for every ad account.
Route | Reports | Builds ad sets and ads | Action switches per ad account | What you set up |
|---|---|---|---|---|
InsightfulPipe, plugin or custom MCP server | 18 read actions, including job title and seniority breakdowns | 10 write actions, new ad sets created paused | 28 switches, enforced on the server | A LinkedIn sign-in, from $29.99 a month |
LinkedIn Ads plugin, built by LinkedIn | Ad set and ad performance, in beta | No, read-only | Nothing to switch, it only reads | Beta, read-only, LinkedIn Ads only |
Your own server on LinkedIn's API | Whatever you build | Edits on 5 ad accounts until LinkedIn grants the Standard tier | Whatever you build | A developer app, Advertising API approval and hosting |
A Campaign Manager export | A snapshot | No | Not applicable | Export a CSV and upload it |

Both InsightfulPipe routes start from the same LinkedIn connection. The plugin reaches LinkedIn Ads and every other platform in your workspace, such as Google Ads and Meta Ads. The custom server keeps ChatGPT on LinkedIn Ads alone.
The video may show an earlier setup. Follow the steps in this article for the current ChatGPT route.
What you are actually connecting
ChatGPT never receives your LinkedIn password. It sends a structured request over MCP, and InsightfulPipe runs the matching LinkedIn Marketing API call with the access you authorized.
ChatGPT → InsightfulPipe LinkedIn Ads server → your authorized LinkedIn ad account
Four limits decide what ChatGPT can reach: your InsightfulPipe workspace, the ad accounts you selected, the actions switched on for each account, and your own LinkedIn role. Your team sets the first three in InsightfulPipe. Your LinkedIn admin sets the fourth.
You do not need your own LinkedIn developer app, Advertising API approval, a server to host or an API version to track. How MCP differs from calling the API yourself covers the trade-off in full.
Before you start
You need four things before step 1, and each takes a minute to check.
- Campaign Manager access for your LinkedIn login. A Viewer is enough for reports.
- An InsightfulPipe workspace, from $29.99 a month. Each ad account counts as one connection, and Starter includes 8. Start a trial if you have none.
- The right workspace role. Owners, admins and operators connect accounts and choose their actions. Members on the user role run reads on the accounts an owner or admin grants them.
- ChatGPT on the web or desktop. The plugin directory is available on every ChatGPT plan, and installing a plugin depends on your plan and workspace settings. Adding a custom MCP server is a web-only step. In a Business or Enterprise workspace, an admin decides who may add one.
LinkedIn's own roles still apply. LinkedIn's roles page lists Billing admin, Account manager, Campaign manager, Creative manager and Viewer. A Viewer can view performance but cannot create campaigns or edit ads. InsightfulPipe never expands the authority of the login you connect.
One naming change matters before you write a prompt. Since October 2025, Campaign Manager calls the API's campaign group a campaign and the API's campaign an ad set (LinkedIn). InsightfulPipe's actions keep the API names, so the map under "Prompts to run first" shows which is which.
Step 1: Connect LinkedIn Ads in InsightfulPipe
Step 1 happens in InsightfulPipe and takes one LinkedIn sign-in. You pick the access level before LinkedIn asks for anything.
- Open Connected accounts and click Connect account.
- On Add an integration, find LinkedIn Ads and click Connect.
- Under Access level, choose Read-only or Read & write.
- Check the MCP / CLI actions list beneath it and switch off anything this account should never run.
- Click Continue with LinkedIn Ads and sign in with LinkedIn.
- Tick your ad accounts, then click the button that counts them, such as Connect 2 accounts.
Each ad account becomes its own connection with its own action list. A read-only connection locks every write until an admin reconnects the account with read and write.

Step 2: Install the InsightfulPipe plugin in ChatGPT
Step 2 is the fastest route. ChatGPT's Plugins directory lists InsightfulPipe, and installing it connects every account in your workspace with no URL to paste.
- In ChatGPT, open Plugins in the sidebar.
- Search for InsightfulPipe, or open the InsightfulPipe listing.
- Select Install plugin.
- Connect your InsightfulPipe account when ChatGPT asks, sign in to InsightfulPipe if asked, and click Authorize access.
The Grant access page names the app asking and where its access goes, and lists Your accounts and Requested permissions. After you click Authorize access, the listing's button reads Manage and Try in chat. The listing says it connects ChatGPT to 50 platforms through one InsightfulPipe workspace, and LinkedIn Ads is one of them.

The same plugin works in Codex. OpenAI runs one plugin directory for ChatGPT and Codex (OpenAI), so the connection you make here carries over to the same account there.
Step 3 (optional): Add the LinkedIn Ads server as a custom MCP server
Step 3 is for a connection scoped to LinkedIn Ads alone. ChatGPT now adds custom MCP servers from Plugins, and you no longer turn on Developer mode first (OpenAI help).
- Copy the server URL:
https://linkedin-ads.insightfulmcp.com/ - In ChatGPT on the web, open Plugins, click Add, then Add custom MCP server.
- Name it LinkedIn Ads, and paste the URL as the Server URL under Connection.
- Leave Authentication on OAuth.
- Review the risk warning and select I understand and want to continue.
- Select Create as a plugin.
When the sign-in opens, sign in to InsightfulPipe if asked, and click Authorize access. On a Business workspace, only admins and owners can create a custom MCP plugin. On Enterprise and Edu, an admin can grant the Create plugins with MCPs permission to other roles.

For one connector that reaches every platform, paste https://main.insightfulmcp.com/ instead. That is the unified InsightfulPipe server behind the directory plugin.
For Codex CLI, add the LinkedIn Ads server with one command, and a browser window opens for the InsightfulPipe sign-in:
codex mcp add linkedin-ads-mcp --url https://linkedin-ads.insightfulmcp.com/Step 4: Use LinkedIn Ads in a ChatGPT chat
Step 4 brings the plugin into a conversation. ChatGPT uses installed plugins when they fit the request, and you can call one by name to be sure (OpenAI help).
- Start a new chat.
- Type
@in the prompt box and pick InsightfulPipe, or your LinkedIn Ads plugin. - Name the ad account in your first request.
Mention the plugin again with @ when a follow-up needs fresh LinkedIn data.

Step 5: Set when ChatGPT asks before it acts
Step 5 is ChatGPT's own approval setting. It decides when ChatGPT stops for your click, and it sits on top of the InsightfulPipe switches in step 6.
- Open Settings, then Plugin settings.
- Select InsightfulPipe, or your LinkedIn Ads plugin.
- Open Permission.
- Choose Allow read-only tools.
ChatGPT offers four levels: Always ask, Allow read-only tools, Allow low-risk tools, which is the default, and Allow all tools (OpenAI help). Allow read-only tools lets ChatGPT pull reports freely and asks before any change. A custom MCP plugin also has a details page where you can toggle each of its tools on or off (OpenAI).

Step 6: Choose which actions each ad account allows
Step 6 is the control on InsightfulPipe's own server, so it holds in ChatGPT, Claude, Codex and every other client. An owner, admin or operator sets it per ad account and can change it at any time.
- Open Connected accounts in InsightfulPipe.
- On the LinkedIn Ads row, click the actions button, which shows the enabled count over the total. Its tooltip reads Configure actions for this account.
- Use the All, Read only and Write tabs to switch actions on or off.
- Click Save actions.
A switched-off action drops out of what ChatGPT sees, and the server refuses it if ChatGPT calls it anyway. There is no delete action, so no Destructive tab appears. Archiving and PENDING_DELETION run through update_campaign, update_campaign_group and update_creative; switch those off to block them.

Verify it worked
Check three things, in this order, before you ask ChatGPT to change anything. None of them writes to LinkedIn.
1. The plugin is installed. Open the InsightfulPipe listing in Plugins. Once it is installed, its button reads Manage. Under Settings > Plugin settings, the plugin should list your InsightfulPipe account under Connected accounts.
2. Run a prompt that cannot do harm. Paste this as it stands. Its last line tells ChatGPT to change nothing.
@InsightfulPipe List the LinkedIn ad accounts available to this connection.
Return the account name, account ID, currency and status.
Do not run a report and do not change anything. The list comes from LinkedIn, so it can include accounts your login sees but this workspace did not connect. ChatGPT works only on the connected ones.
3. Run a real read. Ask for last week's spend by ad set, then compare one number with Campaign Manager for the same dates. LinkedIn reports cost in the account currency and in US dollars, so check which one you are reading.
If step 1 or step 2 fails, go to Troubleshooting.
Prompts to run first
Start with reads that answer a real B2B question. Name the ad account first, and name an ad set for any demographic breakdown.

Prompt | What ChatGPT runs |
|---|---|
"What was cost per lead by ad set last month?" |
|
"Which job titles cost least per lead in ad set [ID]?" |
|
"Which ads have the highest CTR in the Q3 campaign?" |
|
"What revenue did LinkedIn attribute to last quarter's campaigns?" |
|
"Create a paused ad set in the Webinars campaign with a $100 daily budget" |
|
get_demographic_analytics splits results by job title, job function, seniority, industry, company size, company, country and region. Two prompts worth pasting as they are:
@InsightfulPipe Use LinkedIn ad account [ACCOUNT_ID].
For ad set [AD_SET_ID], break down the last 90 days by job title and by seniority.
Include impressions, clicks, spend and leads for each row.
Rank the rows by cost per lead. Do not change anything.@InsightfulPipe Use LinkedIn ad account [ACCOUNT_ID].
Compare the last 30 complete days with the previous 30 complete days.
Break the report down by campaign.
Include spend, impressions, clicks, leads and cost per lead.
The prompt library and the LinkedIn Ads Claude skills are free. The LinkedIn Ads auditor checks CPL, targeting, lead quality and creative, and the B2B optimizer plans lead gen and ABM campaigns. What Claude skills are explains the format.
What ChatGPT can change, and the switches that decide it
InsightfulPipe gives ChatGPT 28 LinkedIn Ads actions, 18 read and 10 write, and each one is a switch per ad account. That control, enforced on the server in every client, makes InsightfulPipe the safest way to let an AI agent change a LinkedIn Ads account.

- Read-only means read-only. A read-only connection locks every write until an admin reconnects the account with read and write.
- Every action is a switch. An owner, admin or operator turns any of the 28 on or off per ad account. The server refuses a switched-off action in every client.
- New ad sets start paused, for you to set live when they are ready. LinkedIn rejects paused on a new campaign or ad, so those start active, and nothing serves while the ad set stays paused.
- Going live is its own switch.
update_campaigncan set an ad set ACTIVE, which starts spend. Switch it off, withupdate_campaign_groupandupdate_creative, wherever ChatGPT should build but never launch. - Archiving sits behind the same switches. Those three updates can also set ARCHIVED or PENDING_DELETION.
- Budgets go to LinkedIn as you state them. Put the number in the prompt, or switch off
update_campaignandupdate_campaign_groupto keep budgets out of reach. - ChatGPT asks first. With the plugin's Permission set to Allow read-only tools, ChatGPT asks before every change.
Beyond reports with more than 90 metrics, the 28 actions build campaigns, ad sets and ads: image, video, carousel, lead gen and existing-post ads, with lead gen forms and media uploads. Company Page posts run on the separate LinkedIn Page & Profile server, and competitor ads from the LinkedIn Ad Library run on the ads libraries server.
Troubleshooting
Most failures trace back to the plugin setup, the account list or the access level. Quoted messages are the exact text InsightfulPipe returns.
- Plugins shows no Add custom MCP server. Your workspace does not allow custom servers for your role. Install the InsightfulPipe plugin from the directory, or ask a workspace admin for the Create plugins with MCPs permission.
- ChatGPT answers without LinkedIn data. Mention the plugin with
@in the request, then name the ad account. - "You don't have access to any LinkedIn Ads accounts. Contact your workspace administrator to request access." The Grant access page shows this under No accessible accounts, with Authorize access greyed out. Finish step 1, or ask an owner or admin to grant you the account.
- "Multiple LinkedIn Ads accounts are available. Please specify ad_account_id." Ask ChatGPT to list the accounts, then name one by ID.
- "This action is disabled for this connected account. An owner or admin must enable it for the account." An owner, admin or operator switches it on under Configure actions for this account.
- "This account is connected read-only, so this action cannot be enabled for it. An owner or admin must reconnect it with Read & Write permissions." An admin reconnects the account with Read & write.
- "'campaigns' is required for action 'get_demographic_analytics'." Name an ad set in the prompt; the API calls it a campaign.
- The report is empty. Widen the dates, write them as YYYY-MM-DD and check the account delivered then. Empty is not always an authentication problem.
- "LinkedIn credentials have expired. Please reconnect the account." Reconnect the account in InsightfulPipe.
Other routes
The other routes only read, take a developer or give ChatGPT a snapshot. The LinkedIn Ads MCP server roundup covers the hosted field in depth.
For reports only, connect InsightfulPipe with Read-only, and every write stays locked until an admin reconnects it with Read & write. LinkedIn's own LinkedIn Ads plugin for ChatGPT is in beta and read-only: it cannot create an ad set, change a budget or pause an ad, and reads no other platform (OpenAI).
- Your own server on LinkedIn's API. You need a developer app and Advertising API approval. The Development tier reads unlimited ad accounts but edits only five (access tiers). The Standard tier takes a separate request, and LinkedIn may decline it. ChatGPT also needs your server on a public HTTPS endpoint or OpenAI's Secure MCP Tunnel.
- A Campaign Manager export. ChatGPT reads an uploaded CSV, but it is a snapshot and changes nothing.
InsightfulPipe takes a LinkedIn sign-in, works in ChatGPT, Codex and Claude, and builds ad sets and ads within switches an admin sets per ad account. It also puts cross-platform reports on the same login. Start a trial.
