Is this the official Airtable MCP server?

No. Airtable runs its own MCP server. InsightfulPipe is an independent, hosted server that connects to the Airtable Web API through Airtable OAuth. InsightfulPipe is not affiliated with Airtable.

Which AI assistants does it work with?

Any AI client that supports remote MCP servers. The setup guide on this page covers Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, Gemini CLI and Codex. You can also work with the same connected accounts from the terminal with the InsightfulPipe CLI.

Is there a Claude connector for Airtable?

Yes. In Claude, add https://airtable.insightfulmcp.com/ as a custom connector and authorize your InsightfulPipe account. You can also add InsightfulPipe from the Claude Directory, which connects all of your linked accounts at once.

Can I use the Airtable MCP server with ChatGPT?

Yes. Add the server URL as a custom connector in ChatGPT Developer mode, or add InsightfulPipe from the ChatGPT app directory to connect all of your linked accounts. Developer mode availability depends on your ChatGPT plan.

What Airtable data can my AI access?

The bases you grant access to, their tables, fields and views, records with filtering, sorting and field selection, keyword search and record counts, and comments on records.

Can it change records and tables?

Yes, on connections with Read & Write access. It can create, update and delete records (up to 10 per call), create tables and fields, rename and describe tables and fields, add, edit and delete comments, and upload attachments.

Is it safe to let AI edit Airtable?

You control the risk. Read-only connections request only Airtable read scopes, and on Read & Write connections you choose exactly which actions are allowed. Deleting records and comments stays off until an owner, admin or operator enables it. Updating records overwrites the fields you send and is a regular write action.

Can I connect multiple Airtable accounts?

Yes. Each connection is one Airtable account with the bases it grants, and you can connect several accounts. Each connected account counts as one connection on your plan.

How does authentication work?

You sign in with Airtable OAuth, which uses PKCE, and grant access to bases. Read-only and Read & Write connections use different scope sets. InsightfulPipe stores and refreshes the tokens securely, and your AI client signs in to the MCP server with your InsightfulPipe account, not your Airtable login.

What are the limitations?

Record creates, updates and deletes are limited to 10 records per call. There are no actions for webhooks, automations, interfaces or creating bases. Airtable API rate limits apply, and the server waits and retries when Airtable asks it to slow down.
