What is the OpenAI Ads MCP server?
OpenAI Ads is OpenAI's advertising platform for ads in ChatGPT, managed in OpenAI Ads Manager or through the OpenAI Ads Advertiser API. The InsightfulPipe OpenAI Ads MCP server is a hosted Model Context Protocol server that connects your OpenAI Ads accounts to AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude Code, Gemini CLI and Codex. You create an Ads API key in the Settings tab of OpenAI Ads Manager, add it to InsightfulPipe and paste one server URL into your AI client.
Your assistant can read the ad account, campaigns, ad groups and ads with their review status, and pull insights at account, campaign, ad group and ad level, such as impressions, clicks, spend, CTR, CPC and CPM, hourly, daily or monthly. It can also read click-through and view-through conversion insights, pixels, conversion events and event settings, custom audiences, lead forms and lead sync subscriptions, and search targetable locations.
It can make changes too: create and update campaigns, ad groups and ads, submit bulk jobs of up to 1,000 operations, upload images, generate ad previews, update the brand name and favicon, create pixels and conversion event settings, send server-side conversion events, create, merge and edit custom audiences, build and publish lead forms, and update availability and titles in a linked product feed.
New campaigns, ad groups and ads are created paused, including those in bulk jobs, and you decide which actions your AI can use on each ad account. Archiving audiences or lead forms and removing audience identifiers stay off until an owner, admin or operator turns them on. Each API key covers one ad account, so you can connect several accounts and compare them in one conversation.
How to connect the OpenAI Ads MCP server

What is an OpenAI Ads MCP server?

How does authentication work?
OpenAI Ads uses API keys rather than a sign-in flow. You issue an Ads API key in the Settings tab of OpenAI Ads Manager and add it to InsightfulPipe, and you can add an optional Conversions API key to send server-side events. Your AI client signs in to the MCP server with your InsightfulPipe account and never sees your API keys. You can disconnect an ad account at any time.
Do I need an OpenAI Ads account?
Yes. You need an ad account in OpenAI Ads Manager, which you can sign up for at ads.openai.com, and permission to create an Ads API key for it.
What can't the OpenAI Ads MCP server do?
It cannot create product feeds or upload full catalogs, which happen in OpenAI Ads Manager, and it only uploads images from a public URL. A campaign's bidding type and conversion events cannot be changed after it is created, segment breakdowns depend on what OpenAI enables for your account, and sending conversion events needs a Conversions API key.
